What do you think is the biggest barrier to achieving true equality, and what steps can, or have you personally taken, to empower more women to claim their rights?

IN my view, mindset continues to be the most significant barrier we face to achieving true gender equality.

It is undeniable that there has been progress, but despite that, we still operate in a culture where deeply ingrained biases dictate which professions are “for men” or “for women”.

Consider how we still say “male nurse” but never “female nurse”— these subtle linguistic distinctions reveal our underlying assumptions about who belongs where.

These perceptions are remarkably persistent across generations, social groups and even industries.

Until we consciously work to remove these biases from our thinking and our systems, we won’t realise the significant shift toward equality that we need.

I make it my mission to uplift other women in the workplace and in the legal profession, providing the reassurance and encouragement that I know is vital. I remember those moments of self-doubt, of wondering if I was good enough, and I’m committed to ensuring other women don’t face those challenges alone.

I believe in the power of representation and mentorship. By actively promoting women to leadership positions, creating mentoring programmes, and speaking openly about these issues, I’ve worked and continue to work to create environments where men and women can thrive.

Each of us has the responsibility to recognise these biases when they appear and challenge them — in ourselves and in our organisations.
