What is one key change you believe needs to happen — whether in the workplace, community, or society — to create real progress for women, and how can you (or have you) contributed to making it happen?
IN today’s world, women continue to break barriers, yet gender inequality remains a pressing issue. True empowerment requires not just individual success stories but systemic changes that open doors for all women. This will ensure that women are given the same chances as men, to lead, to innovate and to influence industries, communities and policies.
A crucial step in this transformation is eliminating bias in hiring and promotions. Many women face barriers such as limited mentorship, and workplace cultures that do not support work-life integration. Companies and policymakers must commit to tangible actions like mentorship programmes, trainings and family-friendly policies that allow women to thrive in both professional and personal spheres.
As a mother to a three-year-old, I understand the delicate balance that comes with managing both professional and personal responsibilities. Juggling my role as general manager of consumer at Digicel Jamaica has only deepened my determination to break these barriers. It’s a reminder that success isn’t just about career achievements but also about creating a legacy of resilience, empathy and growth — both for my child and the women I mentor.
As a young female leader, I aim to show that it’s not only possible to reach these heights, but also that we can continue to support one another, proving that every challenge can become an opportunity to grow and inspire others. I have and will continue to push and challenge women to be the best versions of themselves. Don’t limit yourselves to certain roles because of fear. Always challenge yourself to grow and innovate. I also believe in paying it forward, which will ensure the movement and effort always continue.
Empowering women is not just about individual success; it’s about ensuring that every woman — regardless of background — can achieve her full potential. By leading with vision and inclusivity, my aim is to inspire the next generation of female leaders in Jamaica and beyond.
Meet Kristalle
Kristalle Chin has risen through the ranks to take a seat at the highest level of Digicel Jamaica’s operations and was recently appointed General Manager, Consumer – Mobile and Digicel+.
Having made early gains since being appointed General Manager for Digicel+ in December 2023, Kristalle’s role has now been expanded to include the Consumer Mobile portfolio.
A Campion College alumna who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Geography from Macalester College in the United States, and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business in Canada, Kristalle has a robust ten-year background in commercial business and brings a wealth of expertise to her new position. Her strengths lie in commercial strategy, effective team leadership and a deep understanding of organisational behaviour.
Beyond her professional achievements, Kristalle embraces the roles of mother and partner, contributing to a loving and supportive family environment. Her multifaceted skills and commitment make her a dynamic leader in the ever-evolving landscape of consumer services.
