Glenmuir and Rusea’s lead Ben Francis KO qualifiers
HANOVER, Jamaica – Five-time champions Glenmuir High School and four-time winners Rusea’s High were among the winners as the ISSA Ben Francis Knock-Out got under way on Thursday with four first round games.
Glenmuir High beat Paul Bogle High 2-0 at York Oval while Shamour Smith scored two goals to lead Rusea’s High to their 5-1 win over Christiana High at the Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.
Another former winner, Garvey Maceo High, beat seven-time champions Cornwall College 3-1 at Garvey Maceo in Mocho, Clarendon, while York Castle High eliminated six-time winners St Elizabeth Technical 2-1 at Drax Hall.
In the quarterfinals, the first round winners will meet the teams that were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the daCosta Cup on Tuesday; Garvey Maceo will face defending champions Edwin Allen High; Glenmuir High faces Frome Technical; York Castle takes on Dinthill Technical, and Rusea’s High will meet William Knibb Memorial.
Shamour Smith scored twice for Rusea’s High as they beat Christiana High 5-1 with Terome Morgan, Deonjay Brown and Chadwyck Campbell providing the other three goals.
The win came at an expense as Morgan had to be rush to the hospital with a suspected broken leg.
Paul Bogle High School finished with eight players after three players were sent off in the second half of their 2-0 loss to Glenmuir High, who got goals from Orane Watson and David Reid.
Cleo Clarke scored twice for Garvey Maceo High and Nevaughn Myrie got the other in their 3-1 win over Cornwall College.
