Road to Monaco
ONE lucky sim-racer will have the opportunity to represent Jamaica at the Sim-Racing World Cup in Monaco in October. Local qualifiers for the event will be held by the Jamaica Sim Racing Association (JSRA) under the auspices of the Jamaica eSports Initiative (JEI) as registration opens today.
“We couldn’t be happier to host this exciting event that could potentially spotlight the amazing sim racing and esports talent we have here in Jamaica,” Stephen Stewart of the JSRA told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
Gregory Moore, JEI chairman and CEO, mirrored Stewart’s enthusiasm.
“The ability to have talent that can contest these types of events is what we tasked the JSRA with and I’m confident that they will honour that faith by putting on a good event that will hopefully see Jamaica’s best progress to the final on the world stage,” he said.
The Sim Racing World Cup is being put on by the International eSports Federation (IeSF) and the Monaco eSports Federation (MeSF) beginning July 15.
“We have by July 15 to put forward our top two sim racers,” said Stewart.
The JSRA will host the required local national qualifiers, at which point the two best candidates will be selected to move on to compete with 12 other countries for the 12 open spots for the finals in Monaco.
“Unfortunately, only one driver from each country will get the paid trip to Monaco on October 23rd, where it will be broadcast worldwide. An amazing opportunity to say the least.”
Stewart added that further details, including registration, would be available on the social media channels and website of the JEI starting today.
