WATCH: Holness bats for ‘brilliant’, ‘humble’ Fayval Williams
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Labour Party leader Dr Andrew Holness says St Andrew Eastern candidate Fayval Williams has been a very good minister of finance in his administration, and is not to be underestimated.
Expressing confidence that Williams will retain her seat, Holness, who cast his vote at Mona High School in the constituency this morning, said Williams has her own unique style, and people sometimes underestimate her.
“But if you talk about the strength of a woman, that’s Fayval. She’s a strong person, she’s not overbearing, she doesn’t seek to come and dominate, she’s very humble. But people tend to not realise that Fayval is a brilliant lady,” Holness told the Jamaica Observer.
“Fayval is a Harvard graduate, she’s academically accomplished, and she was, before she entered politics, a successful businesswoman. And she understands the field of finance very well, and she’s been able to execute very well.”
He said that as his Member of Parliament Williams would have surprised many, and she continues to work.
“I expect that Fayval will come home, and come home strongly as well,” he said.
Williams is running against the People’s National Party’s Patricia Duncan Sutherland for the seat.
