Voting smooth across Portland Eastern, Election day workers commended

There has been a steady turnout of voters across Portland after visits to Stony Hill, Drapers, Port Antonio Primary, Port Antonio Infant, Boundbrook Infant, Boundbrook Basic, Norwich Primary, and the College of Agriculture, Science and Education.

The candidates vying for the for Portland Eastern seat are incumbent Ann-Marie Vaz for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP); Isat Buchanan, People’s National Party (PNP), and Tracy-Ann Gillespie-Harris of Jamaica Progressive Party(JPP).

The Jamaica Observer spoke with voter Arthur Thaxter at Port Antonio Primary who said simply, “The process was good.”

This was endorsed by the PNP candidate Isat Buchanan, who voted just before 10:00 am.
“I commend the electoral office on the smooth process here.”

Ann-Marie Vaz, however, who cast her vote at Drapers Primary School just before noon, told the Observer that the process has been taking some time.

“I have had complaints of persons staying up to an hour in the line. I understand as they have to check and verify, especially if one does not have a voter’s ID, but the process is slow. ”
