WATCH: JLP candidate in Hanover Western says earlier voter intimidation issue resolved
HANOVER, Jamaica — Except for allegations of a brief incident of voter intimidation earlier in the day, voting is going fairly smoothly in Hanover Western. Returning officer Alton Lawrence told Observer Online there have been no major incidents and this was borne out during visits to several polling divisions in the constituency.
Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate Tamika Davis, who cast her vote at Greenland Basic School, described the voting process as smooth with a short waiting time.
However, she noted that while most polling stations were running well, there were initial reports of intimidation at polling division [PD] 31 in Mount Peace.
“I had maybe just two calls that were of concern in relation to intimidation [at a] PD [in] Mount Peace. I believe that there were reports of persons on motorcycles driving around the area and preventing persons from entering [the] polling station. But that has since been resolved,” revealed Davis who is seeking re-election.
“I made contact with the [police] chief in command and he dealt with it swiftly,” she added.
