PSOJ congratulates JLP on election victory, highlights low voter turnout
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is extending congratulations to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) on securing victory in the 2025 General Elections.
“We also recognise the People’s National Party (PNP) for a spirited campaign that reflected the strong democratic traditions of our nation. The election results — with the incumbent JLP winning 34 of the 63 parliamentary seats and the Opposition PNP securing 29 — underscore the closeness of this contest and the vibrancy of Jamaica’s democracy,” the PSOJ said.
Describing the margin as narrow, the organisation said it reflects a deeply engaged electorate that is thoughtfully weighing policies, leadership, and the direction of the country’s future.
“At the same time, the PSOJ notes with concern the historically low voter turnout of 39.50 per cent, which highlights the need for all stakeholders — government, opposition, civil society, and the private sector — to work together to rebuild public trust, strengthen civic engagement, and ensure that more Jamaicans feel represented in the democratic process,” the PSOJ said.
It welcomed the balance of power reflected in the House of Representatives as healthy for Jamaica’s democracy, encouraging robust debate, constructive collaboration, and the pursuit of solutions in the best interest of all Jamaicans.
The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Government to strengthen the country’s economic growth trajectory and ensure a supportive environment for businesses and the wider private sector.
