JLP supporters confident in Kingston Central win for Williams
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters have lined the streets outside Convent of Mercy Academy ‘Alpha’ as they anxiously await the results of the official count of votes in the Kingston Central constituency.
Initially, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) had announced that the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Steve McGregor had won, beating the Jamaica Labour Party’s Donovan Williams by 12 votes.
Observer Online was told that representatives for both candidates are observing the official count; however, while the JLP’s Donovan Williams is on site, we were told the PNP’s Steve McGregor is not present.
Additionally, there are no visible PNP supporters outside the property.
Orlando Walters, a JLP supporter, told Observer Online that he is completely confident in the win for Williams.
Some JLP supporters who made their way onto the property were asked to leave by lawmen but refused, stating that they were members of the campaign team and election supervisors and had been peaceful throughout the day.
