Mystery P, who made the semi-finals of last year’s Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition, has signed with Indie-Rootz records, a Canadian independent company.
Brian Kotler, an executive at the label, said the deal was finalised in February. Indie- Rootz, based in Quebec, will distribute
Walk With Jah Jah, the deejay’s seven -song EP, to be released in April.
Westmoreland-born Mystery P (real name Pamella Smith) is pleased to be affiliated with an overseas company.
"It can help in many ways. Wi don’t want stuck in one place; wi waan go many places," she said.
Mystery P, 30, began her recording career in 2000 with In The Ghetto and Wine Up. Recent songs like Mr Government and Cookie Jar earned her a place on ‘Magnum’.
Kotler and Bobby Pottinger launched Indie- Rootz records six years ago. It has a number of reggae titles including an EP by Lady G, and songs by Mikey General, Jimmy Riley, Luciano, Patra and Turbulence.
Jamaican-born acts Jay Harmony and Takiecy-T, and Alicia Anderson, whose parents are Jamaican, are also signed to Indie-Rootz records.
