Lindo does it with Marcia, Freddie
With COVID-19 and military conflicts putting the world on edge, singer-songwriter Hopeton Lindo wrote and produced Don’t Do It, a song which hears him collaborating with Marcia Griffiths and Freddie McGregor.
It was released on June 30 by Lindo’s Irie Pen Records. Don’t Do It is the lead single from his upcoming album for that label.
Even before he wrote the song, Lindo knew extra voices were critical.
“It was my idea of a triple collaboration so I approached Marcia and Freddie, and both agreed without hesitation — bringing the Queen, the Captain and the Pen together to deliver a strong reggae message,” he said, referring to the artistes’ monikers.
Drummer Sly Dunbar, bassist Robbie Shakespeare and guitarist Willy Lindo played on Don’t Do it.
As a singer Hopeton Lindo is best known for the song Territory. He also co-wrote Telephone Love by JC Lodge, Temptress by Maxi Priest and Mr Loverman by Shabba Ranks.
Don’t Do It is inspired by turbulent times.
“I am very concerned about the global uncertainty, and that inspired the writing of such a song. Hopefully the message in the music is received,” opined Lindo.
The yet-titled album will be his first since 2015’s My World Your World.
Lindo’s previous EP was In The Mood, a 2021 collaboration with fellow singer Fiona.
