Nadine Sutherland to shake Harlem with Estelle
Veteran recording artiste Nadine Sutherland will be joining American R&B singer Estelle at the Harlem Festival of Culture on July 28 in Harlem, New York.
Speaking to the Jamaica Observer, Estelle said that she is anticipating the performance with one of Jamaica’s most renowned vocalists.
“Nadine Sutherland is a dancehall icon that does not get the flowers she deserves. So many artistes have been influenced by how she approached singing in dancehall music. Her songs are a part of the soundtrack of our lives, especially mine. I am very excited to share the stage with her,” Estelle said.
Sutherland is equally enthused about the pending performance. She believes the longevity of her music is the reason she was chosen for the occasion.
“I’m honoured that Estelle chose me as one of the artistes to highlight during her show. I always admired her music, but being chosen is great. It’s validation for what my music grew to be — like, intergenerational music which I’m so proud. When you look at it Action is still being played, Baby Face, Wicked and Wild, I’m In Love Anything For You and others. That intergenerational of Caribbean people that appreciate my music…to be called and to stand in Harlem and represent my music and my culture is exhilarating and makes me feel good from inside,” Sutherland told the Observer.
Sutherland delivered at a showcase, dubbed Nadine Sutherland Unplugged, at Coral Cliff Hotel on July 16.
Brian Brian, sales, marketing & entertainment manager, Coral Cliff Gaming & Entertainment, said she was hand-picked because organisers were certain that she would woo the crowd.
“She was selected as she fits in our target demography. She has a bubbly and exciting personality that radiates through her performances, and she was immaculate on July 16, as her vibe and aura were captivating. Her songs are popular and she is releasing new music, so we wanted to take advantage of that and have western Jamaica experience her,” Brown told the Observer.
“Patrons’ feedback was nothing short of love and excitement. They absolutely loved the show, posting content on our socials and having received audiences’ comments, likes, shares, and feedback, we are very satisfied with Nadine as our latest guest performer. Furthermore, during the show’s proceedings, the audience reacted positively to Nadine’s performance, clapping, singing along, dancing, recording, and wanting more from her, which she delivered during her encore, which featured a tribute to the late Tina Turner,” Brown added.
