Taylor Swift on her way to becoming billionaire
There is data emerging that suggests that singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (25) is well on her way to being a full-blown billionaire and may attain that status before her 30th birthday.
She has been named The World’s Highest Paid Musician and to-date sales related to her hit album 1989, (its subsequent and currently ongoing world tour, and endorsement deals with Diet Coke, Keds and other brands) have given her millions since the start of the year.
And with more dates on her tour and more singles yet to be released from 1989, the season of Swift is not quite done yet. Media analyst Mike Raia has been quoted as saying of Swift, “She is so far ahead of everyone else in the industry that she has become not only a powerhouse entertainer but also an important mover and shaker on the commercial side of the music business.”
Perhaps he was referencing Swift’s ability to bring out both big and not-so-big names in music for surprise performances on her tour and give that song and artist a recognisable push. We could argue coincidence that shortly after Taylor Swift uploaded an Instagram video of her hanging out backstage with Rachel Platten singing an acoustic version of her hit Fight Song and later performed that song with Rachel onstage on tour, the song exploded on international radio. But facts and figures suggest that many of these artists benefit greatly from Swift so much as mentioning their song.
Or maybe he was referencing Swift’s decision-making power, proven when she penned and posted a letter to Apple execs on her Tumblr and effectively caused the company to review their initial ideas regarding payment and non-payment of songwriters for the first few months.
Despite Forbes shooting down statistics claiming that on average Swift has been earning one million USD each day, Forbes says there is reason to believe Swift may close the year with $121 million USD.
