    Brunching at Julie Mango

It was the usual hot Sunday and what better way to deal with the oppressive weather than to brunch!

So off Adolph and Annaliesa went to Julie Mango to enjoy a relaxing day. Having called prior to reserve a table, they were assured that they could just walk in, and true to their word, that was the case. The surprise was that more patrons were not on hand. Greeted by manager Richard Bertram their resolve was to try as many of the menu offerings as possible.

The setting is relaxed and somewhat rustic and the menu and drinks available cater to everyone. In keeping with this theme, the prices are also family-friendly, and the offerings ensure that all can enjoy.

First up were the following brunch bites:

    1. The ackee backee, which was seasoned to perfection and lived up to the billing as a favourite!

    2. Julie Mango Salso, which was good but a bit bland. Our request for a little scotchie, though, kicked it up several notches! As a result, we made the suggestion that this item be offered with added heat as an option on the menu.

    3. The mini shrimp thermidor. Ooh la la, this was a hit!

    4. Esco fish fillet bites also seasoned well and no doubt should also be a favourite.

The bunch bites are served in portions that will satisfy even the most ravenous patron, and we can attest to the fact that more than one serving will be ordered of any of the offerings for brunch bites.

The bites were followed by the following brunch entrées:

    5. Yaadie Breakfast, being the ackee & salt fish with steamed callaloo served with ground provisions.

    6. Eggs and Sammy, which was the scrambled eggs with callaloo, sautéed salmon and goat cheese.

    7. Surf & Turf burger.

    8. French toast and bacon and the holy cluck, which is Belgian waffles with toppings of your choice.

The French toast and bacon are not our usual preferences and, unfortunately, neither wowed us. The Yaadie breakfast, eggs and sammy and the surf and turf burger show some potential with some tweaking, which suggestions we were happy to share and which were positively received.

All brunch offerings were had with signature cocktails from the bar, which could be had with or without alcohol. Naturally, the alcohol offerings were our preference. We went overboard in the number of tastings that were had, and at the end of the day, the bill was just about $27,000.

All in all, the staff were welcoming and attentive. Very responsive to any concerns or suggestions and the time seemed to have slipped away, without us thinking about the oppressive weather that awaited our exit. Sunday Brunch is offered on the last Sunday of each month.
