An Overnight opportunity for God of Love
Although the Awesome Power is the listed trophy race, the three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance contest will grab attention on the nine-race programme tomorrow (May 21) at Caymanas Park. A field of 10 runners does battle in this five-furlong round (1,000m) event.
Below is an appraisal of these 10 runners.
1. SOLID APPROACH (USA): (5 ch m by Cajun Breeze – Puz’ler) – Returns to competitive racing from a 241-day break. Solid Approach last raced on September 22 of last year when she finished down the track behind Make Up Artist in a six-furlong call as the favourite. Solid Approach has been timely prepared for her seasonal debut and although she would need the run to find herself again, could put in a surprisingly good shift.
2. MINIATURE MAN: (4 ch g by Northern Giant – Runaway Gal) – Down the track on his seasonal debut behind Mahogany over six furlongs on May 7. Miniature Man is working himself into nick and this quick sprint provides the opportunity for him to do so.
3. THE GOOD WITCH (USA): (5 b m by Tale of the Cat – Witch Craft) – This foreigner makes her local debut with a record of three wins from 22 starts. Looks like a useful sort, but it is a wait-and-see situation for The Good Witch. Note, The Good Witch races with the blinkers on and with Lasix removed.
4. SWEET N SMART (USA): (5 b m by Smarty Jones – Sweet Margi) – Sweet N Smart has been plodding around in this grade for a while now, and will continue to do so.
5. DANNY SPUD: (5 b h by Liquidity – Awesome Camille) – Did extremely well to reach this class, but a winning run from Danny Spud at the first time of asking is pressing the wrong button.
6. GOD OF LOVE: (6 b g by Adore The Gold – Shanda D) – Finished third behind Mahogany and Ras Emanuel in a six-furlong call on May 7 when stepping down to this level. God of Love should have benefited from that effort and given his consistency at the higher level, this one should be easy pickings for him.
7. LURE OF LUCY (USA): (4 b f by Uncle Lindo – Ring of Faith) – Ran a cracker when finishing third behind stablemate King Arthur and Duke in the Lady Geeta Trophy (six furlongs) seven days ago. Then Lure of Lucy pumped the headline before giving way to the top two in the straight, finishing five lengths behind the winner. If Lure of Lucy can reproduce that effort, then she will surely be among the principals when the winning post arrives. This foreigner has to be caught.
8. LABAN (5 b h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – Finished behind the out-of-class Billy Whizz and Santorini at nine furlongs seven days ago. Laban is going to be more appreciative of this distance and another pleasing run is in the offing.
9. MONEY MONSTER: (5 b g by Casual Trick – She’s Traditional) – Although a capable sort, Money Monster is going to find these too hot to handle.
10. HEIROFFIRE: (6 b m by Storm Craft – Thisgirlisonfire) – Has no realistic chance of winning.
