Atomica leaves the comfort of her conditions
Atomica, the leading native-bred three-year-old this season from the barn of Gary Subratie, steps out of her age group for the first time to take on rivals in the three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance call for the I’msatisfied Trophy feature tomorrow (Saturday, October 1, 2022) at Caymanas Park.
The Derby victor faces a field of 11 seasoned runners over 6 furlongs (1,200m), in what is surely a prep race for the filly’s participation in the money-spinning races to come later in the year.
Below is the analysis of the runners in their post-position order.
1 – CURLIN’S AFFAIR: (4 ch c by Perfect Curlin—Nuclear Affair) — Continues to make his presence felt at this level. Curlin’s Affair finished fifth behind I Am Fred and Mahogany in the recent None Such Sprint over 6 furlongs. With third-placed Lure of Lucy and fourth-placed Duke again present, along with the rising star Atomica, Curlin’s Affair only has an outsiders’ chance of being successful in this one.
2- ATOMICA (3 ch f by Nuclear Wayne—Honkeytonkville) – A brilliant filly who won the 1000 Guineas and Jamaica Derby Classic races this season to become the leading native-bred three-year-old male or female. Atomica made one move in the Derby to win by 9 ¼ lengths in a time of 2:35.2. Atomica should not find this trip too sharp and, given her running style, could lead these home. If Atomica is to win this one, she has to get a trouble-free passage. This is the only concern for the connections of this filly, as she is known to be somewhat of a slow starter, and with speedsters the likes of Go Deh Girl, She’s My Destiny, and Lure of Lucy present, Atomica has to be alert at the start. While this is an obvious consideration, Atomica is packed with power, and given her class should romp this trophy event.
3 – GO DEH GIRL (USA): (4 dkb f by Justin Phillip – Pontificating) – Has speed but that is about it.
4 – DUKE: (6 gr h by Casual Trick – Lady McBeth) – Consistent runner who seldom runs a bad race. Duke, the stable companion of Atomica, carries the weight but is most effective at six furlongs. Despite allowing weight all-round, Duke can sit off the pace which is expected before coming on strong in the straight.
LORD OF AJAHLON: (5 gr c by Storm Craft – Crucial Cat) – Is going to be left behind.
EL PROFESOR: (7 b g by Casual Trick – The Principal) – Seems to be enjoying good form of late, with his best hope being a place on the board.
RACE CAR (USA): (5 gr/rn h by Race Day – Mcduffie) – Failed to follow up on last when finishing seventh in the None Such Sprint. An improved but not a winning run is expected from Race Car tomorrow.
SHE’S A DESTINY: (4 ch f by Bern Identity – Woman Is Boss) – A decent filly who is best known for her speed. She’s My Destiny is certain to be among the pacesetters, but against these will find it difficult to maintain that speed when the final furlong is at hand although showing strength in her recent efforts.
LABAN: (5 g h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – Off the board in his last two outings, Laban should face a similar fate tomorrow.
LURE OF LUCY (USA): (4 b f by Uncle Lino – Ring of Faith) – Talented runner who finished third in the None Such Sprint behind I Am Fred and Mahogany. Lure of Lucyfaces another talented runner in Atomica but once coming away in good order, is going to a dangerous contender, plus she is a fighter, which will aid her cause of winning.
DEJAE’S BOY: (5 dkb g by Storm Craft – Dream Big) – A winner on last who is going to find repeating a difficult one.
MONEY MONSTER: (5 b g by Casual Trick – She’s Traditional) – Six furlongs is short for Money Monster and is going to be out sprinted.
