KINGSTON, Jamaica – Classy colt Blue Vinyl seeks to become the 19th winner overall and the 13th at Caymanas Park of the most valued prize in the sport, the Triple Crown, tomorrow, Saturday, August 6 at Caymanas Park. The Triple Crown series of races are confined to three-year-olds and is comprised of the 1000 (fillies only), the 2000 Guineas (colts and geldings), the Jamaica St Leger, and the Jamaica Derby. Blue Vinyl trained by Patrick Lynch has already been successful in the 2000 and the St Leger.
Blue Vinyl has been steadily prepared by Lynch for his Triple Crown date with his main opposition expected to come from the filly Atomica, winner of the 1000 Guineas.
The previous twelve Triple Crown winners at Caymanas Park are Royal Dad (1981), Monday Morning (1987), Liu Chie Poo (1988), The Viceroy (1989), Milligram (1992), War Zone (1996), I’m Satisfied (2000), Simply Magic (2002), Alsafra (2008), Mark My Word (2010), She’s A Maneater (2017), and Supreme Soul (2019).
On Sunday (August 7), attention will move to the fillies-only Jamaica Oaks to be contested at 10 furlongs. There are 11 starters in the Oaks, with no clear-cut favourite, making it a wide-open affair.
