147 new COVID-19 cases in Jamaica, two deaths reported
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Ministry of Health and Wellness reported 147 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths on Tuesday, May 17, bringing the infection total to 133,250 and total deaths to 3,013.
The new cases comprise 84 females and 63 males, with ages ranging from 16 days to 97 years.
The cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew (54), St James (33), St Ann (17), St Catherine (15), Westmoreland (nine), Clarendon (eight), Trelawny (four), Hanover and St Mary (three), St Elizabeth and (one).
Manchester Portland and St Thomas are the only parishes to record zero cases.
The deceased are:
· A 36-year-old male from St Catherine who died in February 2021
· A 69 -year-old male from St Catherine who died in April 2021 (previously under investigation).
There were 118 recoveries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 85,512.
Currently, 79 people are hospitalised, 15 of whom are moderately ill, two severely ill and two critically ill.
Jamaica’s positivity rate for the latest round of testing is 17.6 per cent.
