Abigail Martin wins silver medal in Pan-Am U-20
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Abigail Martin won the silver medal in the women’s discus throw on Saturday morning’s third session of the Pan-American Under-20 track and field championships held at Estadio José Antonio Figueroa, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Martin threw 55.47m to finish second behind Canada’s Julia Tunks, who won the gold medal with 56.98m while American Maddie Fey was third with 52.70m.
Meanwhile, all three entrants in the sprint hurdles made safe passage to the final set for later in the day after the morning’s preliminaries- Richard Hall and Daniel Beckford in the men’s and Asharria Ulett in the women’s.
Hall ran 13.73 seconds (1.5m/s) to win his first round race and was second best while Beckford’s 13.66 seconds saw him place third in his heat and fifth overall.
Ulette, who was in the 100m final on Friday, ran 13.55 seconds (0.6m/s) for second in her first round heat and was third best in the round.
