All three J’can men advance in 400m at CWG
All three Jamaican representatives in the men’s 400m race at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK have advanced to the semi-finals after completion of the first round on Wednesday.
Nathon Allen ran a season’s best 45.18 seconds in his heat, Anthony Cox- 45.51 seconds and national champion Jevaughn Powell clocked 46.14 seconds. All three will line up in the semis on Thursday.
In the women’s equivalent, however, only one of the two female runners made it through. Junelle Bromfield was second in her heat in 52.04 seconds while Roniesha McGregor was fifth in her race in 53.28 seconds and did not move on.
Meanwhile, MVP-based World Championships bronze medallist Sada Williams of Barbados also made progress to the next round.
Nevasky Anderson will contest the men’s 800m finals after he was third in his semi-final race in 1:47.79 seconds.
Meanwhile, in badminton, the pair of Samuel Ricketts and Tahlia Richardson beat the Falkland Islands’ pair of Duane March and Laura Harada 2-0.
Joel Angus lost 2-0 to Alexandre Jean Bernard Bongout of Mauritius in the men’s singles and Katherine Wynter was also beaten 2-0 by Khan Insyirah of Singapore.
