Bike taxi operator gunned down
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — A man was killed in a drive-by shooting in Grange Hill, Westmoreland Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Odean ‘Didblack’ Smith, a bike taxi operator from Kings Valley.
Reports reaching OBSERVER ONLINE are that Smith was sitting on his bike in the Grange Hill square when a car drove up, two men alighted from the vehicle and shot him multiple times.
The men then returned to the waiting vehicle and the car drove off. The car later crashed and one of its doors fell off but the men kept going in the vehicle.
Smith was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Bike taxi operators in Grange Hill are grieving.
“Mi nervous, all a wi feel a way,” one man said.
“Mi just left him a eat a patty and coco bread, only fi come hear seh him dead,” he added.
Smith’s sister, Vinet Gordon told OBSERVER ONLINE that her brother had been a hard worker.
“Anywhere di work deh, him find it,” she said.
“Right now mi feel sick inna mi head fi know seh mi cyah see him and if I call him, he won’t answer,” said a distraught Gordon.
The last time they spoke, he had promised to visit.
“Him seh him soon come look for me, and it nuh happen yet,” she recalled.
