Dacres secures third bronze for Jamaica at Pan Am Games
SANTIAGO, Chile – Discus thrower Fedrick Dacres took the second medal in athletics for Jamaica, and third overall, a bronze in the men’s discus throw on Monday evening.
The medal is Jamaica’s third bronze after fellow discus thrower Samantha Hall’s earlier on the day, and cyclist Dahlia Palmer’s in the women’s keirin last Wednesday.
Dacres had a throw of 61.25m behind gold medallist Lucas Nervi of Chile (63.39m), and Mauricio Alexander Ortega of Colombia (61.86m). His teammate Kai Chang was sixth at 59.96m.
Dacres, who came into the event as the defending champion, is disappointed with the bronze. A late bus from the team village caused him and Chang to show up just a few minutes before the start of the event.
