Debutant Phillip strikes as Windies check Tigers progress
GROS ISLET, St Lucia (CMC) — Fast bowler Anderson Phillip grabbed his maiden Test wicket as honours were shared in the first session of the second Test in St Lucia on Friday.
At lunch at the Daren Sammy National Stadium, Bangladesh had reached 77 for two after being asked to bat first, with Najmul Hossain unbeaten on 16 and Anamul Haque not out on five.
Veteran opener Tamim Iqbal top-scored with 46 but was the last wicket to fall, about 20 minutes before the interval when he scooped fast bowler Alzarri Joseph to vice-captain Jermaine Blackwood.
The left-hander punched nine fours in a typically fluent 67-ball inning, adding 41 for the first wicket with Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who made ten before providing Phillip with his first wicket in Tests on the stroke of the first hour.
The 21-year-old right-hander pushed uncertainly at delivery of fullish length and was bowled between bat and pad.
West Indies lead the two-match series 1-0 after winning the first Test by seven wickets inside four days last Sunday.
