Disgruntled JIS workers stage sickout
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Several workers at the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) embarked on a sickout on Thursday, reportedly to protest salary issues.
The government news agency stated that 35 of the 192 staff members called in sick.
It added, however, that functions were not adversely affected due to the absences.
“All scheduled assignments are being covered as action by some staff members did not adversely impact the core functions of the Agency,” JIS said.
“The Jamaica Information Service is working with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service to resolve the concerns of our beloved staff members,” the agency added.
Sections of the public sector have expressed concern about the government’s new compensation regime.
