Education Minister urges students to participate in summer school
ST ANDREW, Jamaica— Students island-wide are being urged to take full advantage of the National Summer School Programme slated to commence on Monday, July 4.
Minister of Education and Youth, Fayval Williams, said, “It is to help you, who have lost two years when you were on the virtual platforms” while speaking at the Hope Valley Experimental School graduation ceremony in St Andrew on Thursday.
The programme, which was designed to help students recover from the loss of learning due to COVID-19, will run for four weeks and will employ both virtual and face-to-face lessons.
Administrators are expected to use the performance data for individual students to recommend them for a modality.
For students assigned to virtual classes, on-demand access to the platform and content for the entire summer period will be given.
Online service providers who have been approved are Learning Hub Online, EduFocal Limited, and One-on-One Educational Services Limited.
Discussions and plans for the logistics for face-to-face instruction will take place at the regional and school levels.
Meanwhile, Minister Wiliams has thanked parents and teachers for “the resilience that you displayed during the COVID-19 era” and has urged them to remain engaged with students.
