Goule cops season’s second win, Jackson falls to fifth in Switzerland
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s flag bearer for the women’s 800 metres, Natoya Goule, claimed her second victory of the season at the Galà dei Castelli Bellinzona meeting in Switzerland on Monday.
Goule crossed the line in a winning time of 1:59.05 seconds. She finished ahead of Anita Horvat of Slovenia, who recorded a time of 2:00.76 for second, while Poland’s Anna Wielgosz finished third in 2:01.24 seconds.
Meanwhile, Shericka Jackson, who is fresh off winning her first Diamond League title in the 200m at the Zurich Diamond League meeting, could only manage a fifth place finish in the 100m.
Jackson clocked a time of 11.19 seconds in a race which was won by Marie- Josée Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast in 10.86 seconds. Great Britain’s Daryll Neita finished second in 11.00 and Bassant Hemida of Egypt rounded out the top three in 11.07 seconds.
In the men’s equivalent of the event, Ackeem Blake recorded a time of 10.09 second to finish fourth. The event was won by Brandon Carnes of the United States in 10.04 seconds. Canada’s Andre DeGrasse had to settle for eighth in 10.37 seconds.
Jamaica’s lone competitor in the men’s 110m hurdles, Damion Thomas, claimed the runner-up spot in 13.38 seconds behind Jamal Britt of the United States (13.18). Rafael Pereira of Brazil concluded the top three finishers in 13.41 seconds.
Meanwhile, Andrenette Knight produced a time of 52.23 seconds to claim the third place spot in the women’s 400m. The one-lap event was won by Czech Republic’s Lada Vondrová in 51.60 seconds.
