KINGSTON, Jamaica— Shericka Jackson was third in the 100m at Sunday’s final Wanda Diamond League meeting before next month’s World Championships, while Natoya Goule-Toppin and Janieve Russell were both runners-up and Hansle Parchment fourth in their events at the London meet.
Jackson, who was racing for the fourth time in eight days in four different countries, finished third in 10.94 seconds (1.2m/s) as Marie-Josee Ta Lou won with a season’s best 10.75 seconds. Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith was second in 10.85 seconds, her best so far this season. American star Sha’Carri Richardson, who was scheduled to compete, was a late scratch due to a reported injury.
Goule-Toppin was caught and passed late in the women’s 800m race by Great Britain’s Jemma Keely, who won in a meet record 1:57.30, with the Jamaican clocking 1:57.61, just holding off Uganda’s Halimah Nakaayi who was third in 1:57.62.
Russell, the Jamaican national champion, came from a long way behind to snatch second place in 53.75 seconds behind an astounding performance from Fenke Bol who ran 51.45 seconds, the second fastest time ever. Bol’s time was not just a world lead but a Dutch national record, meet record and area record. American Shamier Little was third in 53.76 seconds and Jamaica’s Rushell Clayton finished fourth in 53.97 seconds.
Parchment ran 13.26 seconds (1.3m/s) for fourth place in the 110m hurdles as American World Champion Grant Holloway won in 13.01 seconds, ahead of Japan’s Shunsuke Izumiya (13.06 seconds) and Jamal Britt of the USA (13.25 seconds).
