Jamaica wins three medals on Pan-Am U-20 first day
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica won three medals on Friday’s first day of the Pan-American Under-20 track and field championships held at Estadio José Antonio Figueroa, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico as Alana Reid won gold in the women’s 100m.
Reid recovered from a slow start to take the gold, while Bouwahjgie Nkrumie was second in the men’s final and the Mixed Relay team took bronze in their event.
Reid clocked 11.33 seconds (0.3m/s) to win, beating two Americans, Kaila Jackson was second with 11.41 seconds and Camryn Dickson took the bronze with 11.48 seconds,
A second Jamaican, Asharria Ulett, was seventh in 11.88 seconds.
In the men’s race, Nkrumie got off to a good start and appeared to have taken the slight lead before Azcano caught him at the line to win with 10.26 seconds 90.3m/s, as the Jamaican clocked 10.31 seconds, while Puerto Rico’s Adrian Canales Correa was third in 10.35 seconds.
Jeevan Newby was fifth in 10.50 seconds.
Meanwhile, Jaheen Belle was fourth in the men’s 400m hurdles in 52.25 seconds, while Celine-Jada Brown was eighth in the women’s long jump in 5.56m.
