Jamaican women bag bronze in 4x100m at CWG
Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay team won a bronze medal Sunday for the country’s only medal of the opening session on the final day at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
It took a tremendous anchor leg from sprint double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah to get past two runners ahead of her for Jamaica to salvage a medal behind winners Nigeria and runners up England, in 43.08 seconds.
Earlier, Megan Tapper was fourth in the 100m hurdles in 12.67 seconds (-02m/s) and Danielle Williams was sixth in 12.69 seconds.
Anthony Cox was sixth in the men’s 400m final in 46.17 seconds and Nathon Allen eighth in 48.00 seconds while Jordan Scott was fifth in the men’s triple jump final with a best mark of 16.11m (1.2m/s).
The track and field section of the championships will end later in the day with Jamaicans taking part in the women’s long jump final, the men’s 800m final and both 4x400m relays.
Also, earlier on Sunday, Jamaica’s Lori Sharpe failed to complete the women’s cycling road race.
