JFF Championship semis on Sunday
The first two qualifiers for the Jamaica Football Federation’s Championship will be decided on Sunday with the playing of the play-off semi-finals at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence. The first game is set to kick off at 1:30pm.
The four winners of the first round groups in the play-offs qualified for the semi-finals as they hope to get one of the three promotion spots to the Championship set to kick off later in the season.
Gray’s Inn SC from St Mary will face St Elizabeth’s St Bess United in the first game followed by Seaforth SC of St Thomas taking on Petersfield FC of Westmoreland.
The winners will get the first two spots in the Championship while the winners of the third-place play-offs set for next Sunday the at the same venue will join them.
They will replace Treasure Beach FC and Lime Hall Academy who were promoted to the Jamaica Premier League last season as well as Albion Mountain who were kicked out of the competition after they failed to honour a scheduled match late in the season.
The first semi-final game will see unbeaten teams Gray’s Inn SC, who topped Group B in the first round with 10 points from their four games, taking on St Bess United who had similar statistics. Both won three games and drew the other, Gray’s Inn scoring 12 goals to St Bess United’s nine.
Petersfield FC were also unbeaten in the first round, winning four of their six games played, scoring 15 times.
If the scores are tied after regulation time, extra time and penalties if needed will be used to decide the winners.
