Mother cries after winning $100,000 at gospel concert
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Gospel artiste and clinical psychologist Kevin Waite aka Dr KJ was brought to tears after hearing the testimony of a mother who won $100,000 at the Embrace the Promise Gospel Concert at the Mannings High School grounds in Westmoreland last Saturday.
According to a release, the woman was one of two persons who won the lump sum during the highly anticipated gospel event.
“When she was coming up on the stage to collect, she was crying and saying ‘my daughter was about to be kicked out of school because I couldn’t pay the fee’ and she gave God the glory because her daughter was now going to be able to stay in school and she cried,” Dr KJ recounted.
Identifying with her struggle, the artiste shared his testimony of how God took him through his own financial trials. Delivering a rendition of Goodness of God, Dr KJ spoke of God’s faithfulness after losing his job. He recalled that during that period, he was unable to pay his loans and his bills and in the midst of that, he got the news that his wife was seriously ill. He assured the woman and several others who received cash blessings during the event that after every trial, comes the blessing.
“After the storm, God restored everything,” he shared.
In total, several persons got the opportunity to share in a grand giveaway valued at $300,000. But aside from the monetary blessings, patrons were treated to an abundance of encouragement through praise and worship.
Veteran singer Dr Ron Kenoly led patrons into worship with Anointing Fall on Me and Great Is Thy Faithfulness before dancing with them through classics such as Jesus is the Winner Man and Ancient of Days.
“Since we are the people of God, we can just declare this place tonight the sanctuary of God,” he said, before telling those at the Kingston venue that he is not an artiste, but a worship leader.
“It is always exciting coming to Jamaica. Jamaica is one of the premier islands in the Caribbean, not just for the food and the people, but also, there is a spirit of love and a spirit of joy and celebration, and then, of course, there are so many churches here, the spirit of God is here on this island,” he said.
On day two of the event, which took place at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Complex, International recording artiste Jonathan Nelson had persons in full praise mode as he served up tracks like I Believe and Finish Strong.
Meanwhile, Jermaine Edwards, Carey Sayles, Joan Flemmings and Dr KJ kept energies high and served up powerful performances from their musical catalogue. Each artiste was careful to ensure that God got the glory as they ministered.
UK-based singer Roger Samuels, used the opportunity to remind patrons that there was only one name with the power to save as saxophonist Fred Robertson skilfully guided the musical instrument to serve up some sweet sounds.
Both events were hosted by emcees Nadine Blair and Basillia Barnaby-Cuff. Dr KJ will next head to Nigeria for Embrace the Promise Chapters 6, 7 and 8 this week and then to Antigua and Italy. He is already looking forward to the next staging of Embrace the Promise in Jamaica which he envisions will take place next year.
