Murder probe launched after post-mortem on body found in July
CLARENDON, Jamaica— Police have launched a murder investigation after a post-mortem revealed that a man found dead in July died from gunshot wounds to the head.
The decomposing body of Martin ‘Guz’ Fannell, 25, a labourer from Newtown Phase 2 in Hayes, Clarendon, was found at his home on Sunday, July 10.
Following initial investigations, police did not suspect any foul play. But now cops are searching for a motive and possible suspects.
It was reported that Fannell was last confirmed alive about 11:00 pm on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. About 7:30 am the following Sunday, residents found his decomposed body on a bed inside a one-room board-structured house and contacted the police.
On arrival, lawmen saw the body on its back, clad in a black shirt, grey shorts and barefooted. No marks of violence were observed on the body due to an advanced state of decomposition, bloatedness, and maggot infestation.
Neither were there any obvious disturbances to the house structure.
Police said interviews with community members did not suggest a likelihood of any foul play as it was not unusual for Fannell not to be seen for long periods. The scene was processed, and the body removed.
Police said on Saturday, a post-mortem examination discovered that Fannell died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The matter was reassigned, upgraded to murder, and a probe launched.
