Negril man tries to rob licensed firearm holder, shot, arrested
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— Twenty-two-year-old Jamaine Baker of Whitehall, Negril in Westmoreland, was arrested and charged by lawmen assigned to the Hanover Police Divison after he attempted to rob a licensed firearm holder on Norman Manley Boulevard, Negril, on Friday, June 3.
Baker has been charged with wounding with intent, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and attempted robbery.
Reports are that at about 8:15 pm, a couple was sitting on the beach when they were approached by Baker who brandished a firearm and made demands for them to hand over their items. When his demands were not met he opened fire on the couple. The man, who is a licensed firearm holder, opened gunfire at Baker who escaped on a motorcycle.
Baker, who later turned up at the hospital for medical attention, was pointed out to the police. He was charged and placed under police guard. The couple, who also received gunshot wounds during the melee, were admitted at hospital.
