New Market to get NWC-supplied water after 26 years of planning -JC Hutchinson
With no area of New Market in St Elizabeth served by the state-owned National Water Commission (NWC), Member of Parliament for St Elizabeth, North WEst, the Jamaica Labour Party’s J.C. Hutchinson has said that residents will have water flowing through their taps by 2024.
Hutchinson made the promise during his recent contribution to the 2023/24 State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives.
Said Hutchinson:“The New Market Water Supply Project has been on the drawing board for the 26 years. A well is in place, pipes were laid in 2016 and since then other various activities have taken place to bring the project on stream. I have been informed that the project will be completed in 2024. I am urging the NWC to ensure the completion of this project in the expected time frame”.
Hutchinson noted that the Lewisville High School, which will be served from this project, has had to close on several occasions due to a lack of water.
“Once completed, six districts with a combined population of over 12,000 residents, will benefit from this project,” he said.
