Parchment and Ricketts win in Zagreb
Hansle Parchment and Shanieka Ricketts were winners at the 73rd Boris Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb, Croatia, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet, which concluded on Sunday.
Parchment took the 110m hurdles and Ricketts dominated the women’s triple jump while there were podium finishes for Oblique Seville, Tajay Gayle, Kimberly Williams, Candice McLeod and Fedrick Dacres.
Parchment ran 13.13 seconds (0.0m/s) to edge American Daniel Roberts, 13.15 seconds, with France’s Wilhem Belocian third in 13.30 seconds.
Ricketts had just two legal jumps but her 14.53m (0.2m/s) was enough for the win as Italy’s Dariya Derkach (14.07m, 0.3m/s) was second and Jamaica’s Kimberly Williams third with 13.70m (-0.2m/s).
Seville was second in the men’s 100m, running 10.07 seconds (0.9m/s) as Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala won in 9.94 seconds and Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs was third in 10.08 seconds. Rohan Watson placed seventh in 10.32 seconds.
McLeod was just edged at the finish line by Great Britain’s Laviai Nielsen, who won in 50.93 seconds, just ahead of the Jamaican who ran 50.94 seconds as Sharlene Mawdsley of Ireland was third with a personal best 51.09 seconds.
Dacres threw 66.54m in the fifth round of the men’s discus throw to take second behind Kristjan Ceh of Slovenia, who won with 68.48m and New Zealand’s Matthew Denny was third with 65.25m.
On Friday’s first day of the event, Gayle jumped 8.07m (-0.8m/s) for second in the men’s long jump, just behind Croatia’s Filip Pravdica who won with a personal best equalling 8.09m (0.1m/s) as American William Williams took third with 7.99m (0.0m/s).
Amoi Brown was fourth in the 100m hurdles, running 12.78 seconds (-0.7m/s) as Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn set a meeting record 12.47 seconds, under the old mark of 12.60 seconds.
Michael Campbell was eighth in the men’s 200m in 21.24 seconds while Rajindra Campbell was 10th in the men’s shot with 19.81m.
