Skip Marley back on Billboard charts
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Less than three years after his last appearance on a Billboard singles chart, Skip Marley is back on the list with his single Them Belly Full (But We Hungry).
The track, a reimagination of his grandfather Bob Marley’s 1974 hit with the Wailers, debuted at number 30 on this week’s Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart.
Also featured on the reimagining of Them Belly Full (But We Hungry) is 23-year-old Nigerian singer Rema. Rema currently has the number one song on the US Afrobeats Songs chart for the past 50 weeks with Calm Down, featuring Selena Gomez.
Them Belly Full (But We Hungry) is taken from a new version of Bob Marley & the Wailer’s album Africa Unite, which was released on August 4 via Island Records.
The new ten-track set is a collaboration between African artistes and Bob Marley and the Wailers, to deliver reworks of Bob’s greatest hits. Among the artistes collaborating on the project are Tiwa Savage, Oxlade, Stonebwoy, Ami Faku, Teni, Afro B, Winky D, Nutty O, Patoranking and Ayra Starr.
Songs on the set include So Much Trouble in the World, Redemption Song, Waiting in Vain, Turn Your Lights Down Low, Three Little Birds, Buffalo Solider, Stir it Up, Jamming and One Love.
The last time Skip Marley had a presence on any Billboard singles chart was on the Adult R&B Airplay chart back in January 2021.
In 2020, Skip Marley scored multiple Billboard chart successes with the hit Slow Down which features H.E.R. The song soared to number one on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay, making him the first Jamaican to achieve this feat.
Slow Down was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. The song has been certified gold for sales exceeding 500,000 units in America.
