Spanish Town man killed in Shortwood, St Andrew
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – A man was shot dead and two others narrowly escaped injuries when they were attacked by a gunman on Shortwood Road, St Andrew on Tuesday afternoon.
Dead is Gavin Richards, a 32-year-old resident of Windsor Heights in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Police reported that about 1:45 pm, Richards was outside a business-place with two other men when a dark coloured motor bike with two men aboard drove up. Police said the pillion immediately disembarked and opened gunfire hitting Richards, who fell to the ground.
The other two men ran and were chased by the gunman but managed to escape to the back of the premises, which houses a hardware store, bar and other businesses. The gunman then ran back to the motorcycle and escaped.
Residents contacted the police, who, on arrival, saw Richards dressed in a plaid shirt and blue jeans pants face down with gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital by police where he was pronounced dead.
While investigating the scene, the police discovered that Richards’ vehicle, a Nissan Sunny, was also shot up by the gunman. No motive has yet been established for the killing.
