St Catherine man accused of killing man, robbing woman during home invasion

KINGSTON, Jamaica— A man was charged with murder and robbery with aggravation following the shooting death of a man and robbery of a woman along Gallow Way in Kingston on Friday, May 19.

Charged is 33-year-old Demari Henry, otherwise called ‘Pound’, of Ivy Crescent, Central Village in St Catherine.

He was charged in relation to the murder of 23-year-old Ajainai Banfield otherwise called ‘Ajie’,

Reports from the Hunts Bay Criminal Investigations Branch are that about 2:40 am, Banfield was at home with a woman when gunmen kicked open the door to the house and opened gunfire hitting him in the upper body.

The gunmen then reportedly proceeded to rob the woman of her cell phone before escaping on foot in the area.

The police were summoned and Banfield was assisted to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched and Henry was apprehended and taken into custody on Friday, May 19. He was subsequently charged on Tuesday, May 30 following an identification parade.

His court date is being finalised.
