St Vincent Prime Minister Gonsalves contracts COVID-19
KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC) – Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves tests positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, his office has announced.
He will be quarantined until next Monday, the Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement.
“As a consequence, he will not be able to leave on Sunday, June 19, 2022 to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which is scheduled to be held in Kigali, Rwanda. The Hon Prime Minister has no adverse health reaction, and is working at home,” the statement said.
Gonsalves, 75, is vaccinated against COVID-19 and has said that he had taken five COVID-19 jabs.
In January, eight government legislators tested positive for COVID-19, causing Parliament to suspend the budget debate.
The budget was passed after Prime Minister Gonsalves replaced a senator who had tested positive. He reappointed him after the debate and his recovery.
