#UpNext: Eminexx confident he will make it in music
For up-and-coming artiste Eminexx, music was there for him at a difficult time in his life. Now, his goal is to create a legacy rivalling that of Reggae legend Bob Marley, where his music will be able to stand the test of time, inspiring those who hear it.
The 24-year-old, whose given name is Daniel Roberts, disclosed that music was a hobby to him only six years ago. But while at a crossroads in his life, it became much more than that.
“I started dabbling in music about five or six years ago but started taking it seriously about three to four years ago when I realised that I really had the talent for it. It wasn’t really the career I wanted to pursue at first but life happened and at the lowest point in my life it is what was there for me so that’s why I took it up seriously and say I can do it,” Eminexx said.
He added: “I was basically at a crossroads in my life; I wanted to be a track and field athlete and I had to choose between that and working because I was not so financially stable to take on a career in track, so I started working. At that point, I was feeling low and depressed because I couldn’t get to do my passion. So music was there as a hobby that I did with my friends and at that low point I started writing more and it was kind of therapeutic for me at that time.”
From there, the artiste realised his musical talent, describing it as something that seemed like a “latent ability” that came forth at a time when he needed it the most.
Though fairly new in the industry, Eminexx said that he has come a far way and has improved on his craft.
He hopes to move closer to his dream of being among the greats in the industry.
According to Eminexx, the only hurdle now is getting his music heard more.
“I can say, looking back to four years ago when I started taking it (music) seriously, I have made a lot of progress, especially in my writing, my flow, melody. Everything related to the basic structure of a song has definitely improved. Right now, what I need is exposure; getting people to hear my music. That is really what is holding me back because I basically have everything else down. I have the image, the songs, the style, everything, just want more people to hear it,” the artiste said, adding that he does a fusion of Dancehall and Afrobeats.
With the right exposure, Eminexx hopes to embody his name which he said is derived from the word ‘eminent’ just with his own twist to make it unique to him.
Aiming to achieve the same stardom as hi s musical influences Bob Marley, Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Burna Boy and WizKid, the up-and-coming artiste says he admires how these artistes have mastered their craft.
“I aim to be like that and be on their level or even higher,” he told OBSERVER ONLINE.
He added: “I am aiming for the stars internationally; globally, I want my music worldwide. I want my music to be like Bob Marley’s music where no matter how old it is, it still feels good and refreshing. That is the type of impact I want my music to make when it reaches out there,” Eminexx said.
Eminexx’s music can be found on streaming music platforms and on YouTube.
