US $25m cocaine seizure at Ian Fleming airport – Cops launch high level probe
ST MARY, Jamaica -More than US$25 million worth of cocaine was seized by the Narcotics Division at the Ian Fleming International Airport in Boscobel, St Mary on Thursday.
OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that the drugs were seized during an operation which included members of several local and US law enforcement agencies.
It was reported that about 7:00 pm, officers from the NarcoticsDivision, with operational support from C-TOC and intelligence support from US law enforcement agencies, executed an operation at the airport.
The operation resulted in the seizure of more than 1, 000 pounds of cocaine contained in 10 bags.
The police theorised that a major transnational criminal organisation is responsible for seized drugs. A high-level investigation is now underway in a bid to arrest the perpetrators.
Police said the drug has an estimated street value of US$25 million.
