UTech students ‘Flirt’ for school project
KINGSTON, JAMAICA — Come Friday, February 24, soon-to-be-graduates of the University of Technology (UTech) in Papine will get to mix and mingle at a social organised by Business Administration students as part of a marketing project.
As part of their 2022-2023 Marketing Seminar – a 41-year-old module designed for students completing their bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – the students will be hosting “Flirt: Lady’s Playground” at the university campus.
The module is fully operated by students while lecturers facilitate the activities being carried out to ensure smooth transitions of each project’s completion.
Conrad Hunt, vice president of special executive projects told OBSERVER ONLINE that “Flirt” is the group’s hallmark event, hosted in the Barn-Students Activity Centre at UTech.
“This event is one of the most highly anticipated parties on campus and takes place around the aesthetics of Valentine’s Day, hence the name Flirt. After a three-year break, the marketing seminar of 2022/23 is determined in revitalising this experience, which is the most unique of its kind on the campus,” he said, noting that the organisers will have five hours to pull it off, as it runs from 9:00 pm to 2:00 am.
“What makes this staging different is the excitement we have incorporated into the theme of the event. Ladies Playground emerged as a concept due to the controversy of some events not catering for the females in terms of the disk jocks and the music being played,” Hunt added.
Hunt said the event will provide an experience where patrons are given a space to meet and socialise with those who have “similar tastes in entertainment” and will seek to provide final year students with everlasting memories with friends.
“Among our attractions are the unique names of our bar, seductress and tease. Not to mention our coded cups as these allow patrons to choose the colour cup that matches the mood they are in on that night. Feeling seductive? Then grab an orange cup at the bar. Feeling like a tease? Then it’s green and pink,” Hunt said.
“Our disk-jocks lineup was carefully organised as these disk-jocks are known for playing soulful music to entice the patrons and are able to read the crowd well. Our lineup includes JJ Deadlock and Insaneo, DJ Nova, our very own past marketing seminar member, Laing D known as the ‘Girls them DJ’, and also DJ Mac and DJ Baba.”
