WATCH: Heavy police presence at Ocho Rios lock-up after standoff with inmates

There was a standoff between inmates and lawmen at the Ocho Rios police station in St Ann on Wednesday evening.

The circumstances around what lead to the standoff are unclear.

On Tuesday, five inmates of the Ocho Rios lock-up who were allegedly seen in a viral video assaulting another inmate were arrested and charged.

The men were charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and unlawful wounding in relation to the incident which occurred on January 19.

Reports are that between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm, an argument developed among the men when the inmate was assaulted. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released back into the custody of the police.
