Western Relays slashes entry fees
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Organisers of Western Relays has slashed the cost for schools and clubs taking part in Saturday’s 44th staging of the event at GC Foster Sports College, according to a press release on Monday.
The cost for teams was originally $20,000 for single gender teams and $40,000 for both, but the organisers said they were reducing costs based on feedback from a number of schools.
“Meet Director Ray Harvey OD, said on Monday morning, they had decided to reduce the costs to $15,000 for single gender schools and $25,000 for co-ed teams,” the release said.
It went on to say, “we have always tried our best to understand the needs of the schools and teams that have been a part of this meet for the last 44 years and we are committed to ensuring that we maintain the high standards we have attained over the years.”
Meanwhile, the cost for individual entries remained at $2,000 per person, per event, the release also stated.
“The mandate of Western Relays has always been to assist in the development of track and field athletics and we will stand by that commitment,” Harvey said.
