#WorldChamps: Distin, Williamson, miss podium finish in Women’s High Jump
EUGENE, Oregon – Jamaica’s Lamara Distin and Kimberly Williamson missed out on a medal finish in the final of the women’s high jump at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Distin, the national record holder, cleared a height of 1.93 metres to finish ninth in the event. Meanwhile, her compatriot, Williamson, could only manage to place eleventh after clearing a height of 1.89 metres.
Both women made history as the first Jamaicans to qualify for the final of the women’s high jump at a world championship.
The event was won by Australia’s Eleanor Patterson in a new area record of 2.02 metres, while Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine claimed the silver medal with 2.02 metres and Elena Vallortigara of Italy secured the bronze in a season’s best 2.00 metres.
