Tufton reports 9 new COVID-19 cases, 26 more recoveriesWednesday, May 20, 2020
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Christopher Tufton says nine more people have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the island to 529.
The new cases include six males recently repatriated from the United Kingdom, one from the Alorica call centre in St Catherine, one male contact of the St Catherine cluster and one male from Kingston and St Andrew, whose case is under investigation.
The minister said of the over 120 individuals who have come in from the UK, 12 have tested positive so far. He noted that all 12 are cruise members.
This, Tufton said, is some 26 per cent of returning cruise ship workers who have tested positive for the virus.
He added that 26 more patients have recovered and there are currently no COVID-19 patients in intensive care units (ICU) on the island, despite the number of positive cases.
