Four firearms seized in 24 hours, one man arrested — policeTuesday, June 15, 2021
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police are reporting the seizure of four firearms and more than 20 rounds of ammunition in various operations across the island on Monday. One man was also arrested.
According to police reports, one 9mm Springfield pistol with a magazine containing 15 cartridges, one .38 special revolver and a magazine containing ten 9mm cartridges were found in a house in Coconut Loop district in Catherine Hall, St James during operations conducted between 5:15 am and 6:45 am.
The guns were reportedly found hidden in a drawer.
A man was taken into custody in connection with the seizure but the police are withholding his identity pending further investigation.
Then, during operations about 1:30 pm yesterday, the Morant Bay police found one Smith and Wesson .38 pistol containing five .38 rounds of ammunition at the root of a tree on Blacksmith Lane in the parish.
No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The three weapons are in addition to a 9mm pistol, which residents reportedly found about 8:30 pm on a church compound in Cane Heap district in Richmond, St Mary.
The police said investigations are continuing into all cases.
