A star is born?
Dear Editor,
Kudos to firebrand batsman of West Indies cricket Johnson Charles!
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has discovered a diamond in Charles, who registered a fastest hundred in just 39 balls for the West Indies squad in the Twenty20 (T20) format of the game against South Africa.
Charles surpassed the earlier record of fastest hundred by the home side’s batting legend Chris Gayle, who had taken 47 balls for the same achievement.
Charles blasted the South African bowling by hitting 11 sixes and 10 boundaries, and this great knock helped West Indies in piling up a big total of 258 runs in 20 overs.
Unfortunately they were 20 runs short of the biggest-ever T20 total: 278 runs by Afghanistan against Ireland.
