JUTC driver par excellence, Jeffery Sampson
Dear Editor,
In a time when we have become so numb to crassness and crudity and terrible customer service is par for the course, especially within our transportation system, it’s almost an absurdity when you encounter someone who boldly defies these norms.
Meet Jeffery Sampson, Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) driver par excellence that plies route #128, from Angels to Papine. In all my years of commuting the public transportation system I’ve never encountered anyone who displays the kind of customer service that Jeffery embodies. His innate charm and ability to make you feel welcome is second to none.
Tell me now, which bus driver in Jamaica do you know who welcomes you on a Monday morning, calls you family, and thanks you for making his bus the transportation of choice, especially at the end of the work week?
Which driver ensures that you are in for a prank/treat on April Fool’s Day?
Which driver do you know who celebrates the teachers on his route?
Which driver honours all mothers in advance for Mother’s Day?
Which driver do you know “crosses” the women and children along the busy thoroughfare before driving off – that’s Jeffery!
It’s not hard to see why Jeffery is the driver of choice when it comes to special missions, such as transporting visitors and athletes during the last Carifta Games, to name a few. Jeffery will get the job done in style and ensures that a suitable arrangement is made if he is on an assignment.
During evening and morning commutes, passengers are entertained with either a movie or soothing music. Jeffery pulls out all the stops to ensure that passengers are comfortable, and best of all, he’s totally accessible by phone.
I would suggest to the management of JUTC that Jeffery Sampson be promoted and his skills used as a template to train drivers during future workshops.
To Jeffery, we your faithful passengers believe in giving you your roses while you are still able to receive and enjoy them. Kudos to you Jeffery!
A grateful commuter
