PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) -- Haiti has named yet another goodwill ambassador to represent the Caribbean nation overseas.
The new envoy is former National Basketball Association player and Haiti native, Olden Polynice.
Polynice said he looks forward to working with President Michel Martelly on several projects, including the construction of a sports center where young people can exercise and study. Martelly said he hoped Polynice will bring investors to Haiti.
The 47-year-old joins several other ambassadors picked by Martelly to show a positive image of the impoverished country. The other envoys include Hollywood star Sean Penn, actress Maria Bello and Czech model Petra Nemacova
Polynice played center for the Seattle SuperSonics, Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz.
Martelly made the announcement yesterday at a ceremony at the National Palace.
